I love running my Linux Apps on top of my windows using the Seamless Mode function in Virtualbox. Seamless mode lets you have both OS (eg. Windows and Linux) running side by side and applications would have their own windowed option. To use seamless mode in Virtualbox, you are required to have the Virtualbox Guest Additions installed. Installing it from the given option menu does not help always.

Installing Virtualbox Guest Additions To Enable Seamless Mode

Open your Linux terminal while running Virtualbox, and type in the below 3 lines and the next time you reboot, you will have the Virtualbox Guest Additions installed accordingly. Tested on Ubuntu and Debian based distros.

Please take note I haven’t tried this on all distros, so if there is any problem you can try the native way of installing the Guest Additions.
