Finally 4MB Streamyx, After Going Through Hell!

Finally after going through hell with TMNet, i managed to get my broadband upgraded to 4MB. It took them more than 10 days for everything to be settled from the day the technician came to my house and as i read in some forums they had to wait longer!

The TMNet Experience:

I registered online for my 4MB upgrade and to my surprise the technician came in 5 days later with my new free modem. He installed it and i obtained 1.5MB speed. He mentioned it will take 24 hours for the account to be activated. Hence to make sure everything is working fine, he tried with his Test ID and managed to get speed of 3.5MB which is acceptable. After 48 hours i was still getting 1.5MB speed and the technician was not sure what to do. I took matters to myself and started to call TMNet everyday to check why i am getting this speed and they asked to check with the technician instead. I got my head straight and told the agent off saying it is no problem with the port or installation since the Test ID worked fine. They logged a case for me since they didn’t know what to do as well, as they mention the account (package) already upgraded to 4MB. After 8 days of calling TMNet (daily), i spoke to the supervisor and told her my problem and that no one was able to help me! She checked my account and mentioned that my package was already upgraded to 4MB but the radius was still reflecting at 1.5MB. She apologized and passed the issue to the Configuration Management team who within 4 hours activated my account accordingly and i managed to get maximum speed. My praises to Rita Zahara who helped me when nobody could.

Two days later the technician called to check if everything is ok. I just had two words for him!

I am happy that finally everything is settled and youtube streaming doesn’t take much buffering. The speed i am getting is around 3.3MB – 3.7MB based on speedtest, but download speed can reach up to 4.5MB. Here is my speedtest result.

If you are planning to upgrade, make sure you have the patience and also if nothing works, call up TMNet and check what was missing in my case.

Tmnet’s customer service sucks, and delays are to be “expected”. Based on my experience of my line being cut without any notice 4 days after paying my bill (and telling them during a “normal”, very polite, reminder call – not a word/caution about line cutting, and the call ending with a “terima kasih kerana membayar”), I don’t expect anything from tm.net. They still think they are the government, telling me that updating the account takes “several days”. They said I cannot compare them with Immigration, JPJ, etc despite the latter being government departments – imagine asking to be treated more than even the government.

If anyone else, like me, is at a location outside Klang Valley, where the only landline option is by tm.net, we can only hope tm.net is disbanded/broken up (like Ma Bell) due to dvine/political intervention (if we are lucky, thier management could piss of the political big guns) and real competition is allowed into the market. I pray they do something catastrophic (maybe bar the PM/DPM’s internet account) to bring this about.
